Flanked by breathtaking views, and located within walking distance of the High Peak Trail and Black Rocks, the ‘Sun’ is the ideal resting place for the weary traveller! The Rising Sun was originally built as a farmhouse in the early 1700s, the restaurant being the stables. It was thought, at the time, that beer was an antidote to lead poisoning and therefore any number of small properties were given alcohol licenses to assist the lead mining community. At one point there were over 40 Public Houses in Wirksworth alone. In 1848, the farm was serving alcohol as well as rearing livestock. It was only as recently as the early twentieth century that it became exclusively a public house.
So come along and enjoy our traditional food, fine ales, wines and spirits. In a prime location for trails within the gateway to the Peaks, we are popular with ramblers.
