Derbyshire Eco Centre

Porter Lane Middleton by Wirksworth DE4 4LS

The Derbyshire Eco Centre is the county hub for courses and activities focusing on education for sustainable development. It supports Derbyshire County Council’s work to address climate change issues. It promotes creativity through the arts, and teaches skills to help conserve the natural world and to live healthy lifestyles. The Centre’s workshop and site are ideally suited for teaching sustainable building skills, including dry stone walling, to support the rural economy and conserve its heritage. Most of the learners at the Centre are adults. There are also learning opportunities for young people (especially those approaching adulthood) and young people who come to learn with their parents or carers (family learning). Derbyshire Eco Centre is the first of its kind - the only centre built by an adult community education service to promote sustainability skills anywhere in the country. The brand new building demonstrates sustainable building ideas and techniques. Come and visit us to find out more about the design, materials and technologies used. You can also hire space at the centre in which to run your own course or hold a meeting or to display an exhibition. To support our work and exchange expertise with other like minded people, you can join our affiliation scheme called the Eco Centre Exchange We also have several roles for which we welcome the help of volunteers, including a regular Wednesday volunteer group. If you would like to become a volunteer please contact us. For more information on our adult or family learning courses, hiring space, joining Eco Centre Exchange or volunteering with us, please see our websites: www.derbyshire.gov.uk/ecocentre and www.ecocentreexchange.org.uk or contact us for more details.
